Liz Baxter wrote to say include your JustGiving link in your e-mail signature along with a short message about what you’re doing.

For example, Liz is trekking the Inca Trail in South America to raise money for Kent Kids Miles of Smiles, which provides both residential and respite care for sick and disabled young people from Kent. So Liz’s message could read:

I’m trekking the Inca Trail in aid of Kent Kids Miles of Smiles. Sponsor me here: www.justgiving.com/liz-baxter

The message needn’t be any longer than that. There’s just enough information to pique people’s interest and get them to click on your link where they can read more.

Yesterday we asked you to e-mail us your top fundraising tips. First out of the gate was Graham Sanders with a classic: design a fundraising T-shirt.

With more and more T-shirt design websites like teepay.com popping up all the time, it’s never been easier to design your own T-shirt, and the fundraising benefits are manifold. A T-shirt is a great way to announce your presence at an event, and if there’s a group of you taking part, T-shirts become a uniform. You can even sell your T-shirts and give the profits to your charity.*

During Movember (the month formerly known as November) Graham will be growing a moustache in aid of The Prostate Cancer Charity and has designed this snazzy T-shirt to compliment his efforts. You can view Graham’s JustGiving page and sposnor him here, and you can chart Graham’s progress on the Huw David Design blog. As you can see from this photo, it’s still early days!

Don’t forget to keep sending your tips to featured@justgiving.com.

*Unfortunately, we cannot claim Gift Aid on any T-shirts sold through your JustGiving page. If you do decide to give away T-shirts in exchange for a donation, please make sure you donors un-check the ‘I’m not getting a ticket, product or service in return for my donation’ box on the donation page.

A couple of the more fabulous members of the JG team were very happy to spot a mention of JustGiver Emma FitzGerald in this week’s Grazia. Despite the fact that she hates running, Emma ran the Grazia/Nike Women’s 10K in London’s Victoria Park on the 24th October for The Quiet Cancer Appeal after a close friend of hers was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer earlier this year.

Neuroendocrine cancer has come to be known as “The Quiet Cancer”, not only because it’s rare, but also because of its apparent lack of early symptoms. Unfortunately, by the time a tumour has been diagnosed, it has already spread and is incurable.

Inspired by the way her friend has handled this terrible news, Emma decided to shrug off a lifetime’s aversion to physical activity and has already passed her fundraising target of £6,000. The money she’s raised will go to a specialist unit at the Royal Free Hospital, which researches new treatments, not only for neuroendocrine cancer, but also for more common types like breast cancer.

From all at JG Towers, congratulations Emma!

You can view Emma’s JustGiving page and donate here.

It may seem like an obvious point to make, but when you’re looking for fundraising ideas, why not talk to your chosen charity? It can be easy to select a good cause from afar and just get on with it, but a quick phone call or e-mail might reveal something you haven’t thought of, and charities are usually only too happy to help.

Now in it's 24th year, Gosport is a popular choice for dedicated half marathon runners as well as those looking to test their training before running a full marathon in the Spring. And more importantly, it's a popular choice for JustGivers.

It's a fast, flat course - so plenty of PB potential there - that takes in an airfield service road and a stretch of the seafront with views to the Isle of Wight.

Organisers have listened to comments from previous entrants and this year there will be changes to the start of the race so there's less congestion and a faster getaway.

There's also a fun run for kids.

Postal entries close on Wednesday 4th November, but if you're quick, there's still time to enter online through Runner's World.

In her career as an optometrist, Jackie has come into contact with a variety of people who have severe visual conditions. That’s why she’s decided to run for the Gift of Sight appeal, which funds research into the prevention and treatment of blindness. Based at Southampton General Hospital, the Gift of Sight Eye Research Centre specialises in age-related macular degeneration - the commonest cause of blindness - as well as diseases like nystagmus and glaucoma.

Here’s a useful site. Mapometer.com (short for ‘mapping pedometer’) uses Google Maps to give you an easy way to map out your runs, measure distance, calculate calories burnt (if you’re into that sort of thing) and can even tell you what altitude you’re running at.

You can select a start point and an end point, and then have Google Maps choose the fastest route for you, or you can specify the individual streets you want to run down (very useful if you’re planning a loop).

After a simple registration process, you can also save and edit your routes, as well as share them with friends.

There’s also the option for runner-friendly businesses like gyms and sports shops to add an icon to the map, just in case you find yourself in need of a new pair of shoes mid-run!

With more features being added all the time, including a blog that contains some pre-mapped routes for a couple of the world’s most famous marathons, we at JG towers think this is one to watch.

So take a five or ten minute tea break and email your loyal sponsors to let them know how your run went. Include any highs or lows - and highlight how much their contributions helped.

People will be much more inclined to sponsor you, or someone else, again if they’ve had the great feeling of being an important part of your challenge.

So add a training update to your JustGiving page, like Tracey Sands has done here.

To update your page, all you have to do is log in to your JustGiving account, go to ‘Your pages’, click on the page you want to update then click on ‘Edit your page’.

You can update your page as often, or as rarely, as you like - but the more current you keep it, the more you’ll encourage people to keep visiting!
